Klamath Music: Quick Glossary of Live Music Terms

Backline: Musical equipment provided by a venue or event organizer for bands to use, typically placed behind the performers. This often includes drum hardware, bass cabinets, or guitar amplifiers. (Note: Klamath Music events generally do not provide backline; artists are expected to bring their own instruments and amps.)

Baseline Performance Fee (or Minimum Guarantee): The essential guaranteed rate an artist requires to secure a booking. Providing an accurate, concrete baseline allows organizers to quickly determine if an act aligns with their specific event budgets.

Electronic Press Kit (EPK): A digital resume for a band or artist. A good EPK typically includes a bio, high-resolution promotional photos, links to live performance videos, social media links, and contact information.

Input List: A numbered list detailing every single audio connection the sound engineer needs to patch into the mixing board. For example: 1. Kick Drum, 2. Snare, 3. Bass DI, 4. Stage Right Vocal, etc.

Stage Plot: A simple visual diagram showing exactly where each band member stands on stage (with what instrument they play) and where their amplifiers, microphones, and monitor wedges should be placed.

Sound Check: A scheduled block of time before the show/event begins where the artist sets up their equipment and works with a sound engineer to balance the audio levels for the room and stage monitors. (Note: Prompt attendance for assigned sound check times is crucial for keeping an event on schedule.)
